Prospective Members

The Palos Verdes Assembly
Application Information and Instructions

The application period for the 2019-2020 Assembly season is April 15, 2019 to May 5, 2019. No applications will be accepted outside of this application window and applications are only accepted electronically.  The Palos Verdes Assembly Membership Application can be accessed here.

Be prepared ahead of time by reading the instructions below regarding the personal essay and letters of recommendation.

Though the majority of our new members will be incoming freshmen, we do consider applications from other grade levels and will accept qualified applicants for those grades as space allows.

NOTE:  Prior to beginning the application, please be sure to have your handwritten essay completed and scanned to your computer (personal essay form available below). Please also have your two recommendation forms completed and scanned to your computer as two separate files (recommendation form available below).  This application must be completed in one session--there is no ability to save an application in-progress and return to it later.  Please allow 20 minutes to complete the application and be sure to have student and parent present to electronically sign the application forms.

Once you have completed your online application, a confirmation email will be sent to the parent and student email addresses.  If you do not receive a confirmation email, we have not received your application!

Thank you for your interest in PV Assembly! Membership is open to high school students who have attended Ridgecrest Cotillion, Miraleste Intermediate School Cotillion, Palos Verdes Intermediate School Cotillion, or Bent Cotillion and are either current residents of the Palos Verdes Peninsula or attend school in PVPUSD.

Membership is based on Cotillion experience and attendance, letters of recommendation written by adult members of the community, handwritten student essay, receipt of application within the set dates, equal balance of male and female members, and the membership capacity of available facilities. Consideration may also be given to legacy applicants (participation by sibling parent or grandparent).

Membership is a four-year commitment.

Members are required to attend all dances and activities as stated in the calendar (approximately 8 annual events).

Members shall miss no more than two events during the Assembly year or their membership may be revoked.

Members are encouraged to donate a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service per year to the community.

1.      Obtain two personal recommendations:

  • Print out two copies of the Recommendation Form.
  • Have two adult members of the community complete recommendations on your behalf.  Teachers, counselors, coaches, work supervisors, religious leaders and Patronesses of The Palos Verdes Assembly are considered appropriate.
  • Collect the completed recommendations.  Be sure the people writing your recommendation understand that they are to return the forms to you promptly so you may submit them with your application prior to the deadline.
  • Scan these recommendations as two separate files to your computer in order to submit them with your application (upload in application).  A very easy way to scan is to use an app such as Genius Scan which turns the camera function on your smart phone into a scanner.  These scans can be emailed to your own email address and then saved to your computer.  These scans should be two separate files.  Photos may also be used, but are not preferred.

2.      Write an essay (250 words or less) explaining your interest in participating in Palos Verdes Assembly. This essay must be written by hand.  Only the contents of the paragraph will be considered and penmanship will not affect the decision.

  • Compose your essay in your own writing on our Personal Essay Form (cursive or printing acceptable).
  • Scan your essay to your computer/device in order to submit it with your application (upload in application).  A very easy way to scan is to use an app such as Genius Scan which turns the camera function on your smart phone into a scanner.  These scans can be emailed to your own email address and then saved to your computer.  Photos may also be used, but are not preferred.

3.      Complete the online Palos Verdes Assembly application form.  You will be prompted to insert your scanned documents during the completion of your application, so be sure you have these scans available.

  • Parents and applicants must read and sign the Membership Policies and Code of Conduct.
  • Parents and applicants must complete the Liability and Photo release forms.
  • Parents and applicants must complete and sign the Medical Emergency Information section.
  • Parents may complete the optional Parent Interest Finder.

4.      Send no money at this time.

5.      Submit your application online within the submission window of April 15, 2019 through May 5, 2019.  Any applications submitted outside of this window will not be considered.
